David Bowie’s Eyes Painted In Flowers

Flower Bowie eyes by Patrushka 12

David Bowie’s Eyes in Flowers

These two little paintings are in the upcoming exhibition “The Coaster Show” at La Luz de Jesus Gallery, in Los Angeles. (For show info, click here.)

They are David Bowie’s unusual eyes, transposed on flowers – a carnation (which is Bowie’s birth flower for the month of January) and a gardenia (which is his wife Iman’s favorite flower.)

The carnation symbolizes love, fascination and distinction.

In an interview Iman shared, “I did not want to get involved with a rock star. No way. It is not a sane thing to do, but David changed my mind. He wooed me.” Shortly after their first meeting, Iman traveled to Paris.  When she arrived at her hotel room, it was filled with her favorite flower, gardenias, with a card from David.

A Beautiful David Bowie, The One and Only

Beautiful Bowie by Patrushka 600px

My humble portrait homage to the late and great ultimate artist David Bowie, who rocked our world and changed our culture forever. Expressing feelings of his love and our love; inspired by The Day of The Dead blessings and his song “We Are The Dead”. The floral motif is Japanese inspired because Bowie had a love their aesthetics.

Something kind of hit me today
I looked at you and wondered if you saw things my way

People will hold us to blame
It hit me today, it hit me today

We’re taking it hard all the time
Why don’t we pass it by?
Just reply, you’ve changed your mind
We’re fighting with the eyes of the blind
Taking it hard, taking it hard…

Title: “We Are The Dead” – A Day of the Dead tribute

Sizes: 20″ x 24″

Medium: Gouache on wood panel, varnished
