In Honor Of Prince, The Purple One

Prince, The Purple One By Patrushka 600pix

Sadly, our iconic rockers seem to be dropping like flies lately…

The death of Prince (Rogers Nelson) was a real shocker, especially falling on the heels of Bowie. I had to honor him with a Day Of The Dead tribute, complete with purple and paisleys. May he be dancing and strutting on that stage in the afterlife, there’s a party going on up there.

“Dearly beloved,
We are gathered here today
To get through this thing called life.

Electric word life
It means forever and that’s a mighty long time
But I’m here to tell you
There’s something else
The afterworld…”

 – Lyrics from “Let’s Go Crazy” by Prince –

An Alley At Night In Florence, Italy

AlleyAtNight-Italy-ByPatrushka 600px

After leaving a bar late one night during travels in Italy, I stumbled upon this alley with cool yellow lighting and a blue lit window. Had to capture this little piece of a cityscape the best I could.

No savior jailer can take it from me

Black Jesus Reprinted In New Bible

black jesus

I am happy to report my black velvet painting – “The Real Jesus” was included in the printing of The African American Bible’s recent edition.
Now if only all the bibles showed him as black (or at least dark skinned as we know he was… ) -that would be amazing progress!

Bit by bit, baby steps are better than none…

Lady Simone

LadySimone-Patrushka-Web10

A portrait inspired by a woman named Simone, her beauty, her favorite flower – a peony, and her favorite color – mint green. Embellished with vintage design, fashion and the Day of the Dead. And as usual the wood grain playing within the flesh…

“I remember what you told me before you went out on your own

“Sometimes to keep it together, we got to leave it alone.”

So you can get on with your search, baby, and I can get on with mine

And maybe someday we will find , that it wasn’t really wasted time”

Hope-Patrushka-web8

This is a small watercolor inspired by an Emily Dickinson poem.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops – at all …

Lillith, a Goddess of the Moon •

Title: Lillith, a Goddess of the Moon

LILITH/LILITHU (Hebrew, Babylonia, Sumeria): Moon Goddess; the patroness of witches; female principle of the universe; demon goddess to the Jews and Christians. Her sacred bird was the owl. Her name may have come from the Sumerio-Babylonian goddess Belit-ili or Belili. A tablet from Ur, about 2,000 BCE, mentions the name Lillake. Protectress of all pregnant women, mothers, and children. Wisdom, regeneration, enticing sorcery, feminine allure, erotic dreams, forbidden delights, the dangerous seductive qualities of the Moon.
